Abstract: 

Significant progress has been made in the treatment of myasthenia gravis (MG), an autoimmune neuromuscular condition characterized by muscle weakness and tiredness, leading to notable improvements in patient outcomes. In recent years, therapeutic practices have advanced as the benefits of thymectomy in patients with acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibodies have been confirmed. Thymectomy has shown to result in superior clinical outcomes compared to solely relying on medication care. Multicenter randomized research shown that patients who underwent thymectomy in combination with prednisone experienced a significant enhancement in their quantitative MG scores and necessitated reduced doses of prednisone over a period of three years. Moreover, the implementation of novel medicines has expanded the range of therapeutic choices for patients with refractory MG. Eculizumab, a complement inhibitor, has been recently licensed by the FDA for the management of severe cases, demonstrating promising results. Several experimental medications that focus on B-cell pathways and immunological regulation are now being tested in clinical trials at different stages. This suggests a trend towards more individualized methods to treating MG. Moreover, there has been a significant advancement in comprehending the pathophysiology of MG, which has led to the identification of unique disease subtypes that are linked to specific autoantibodies, such with those targeting muscle-specific kinase (MuSK) and lipoprotein-related protein 4 (LRP4).This understanding is essential for the development of precise treatments. In summary, these developments highlight a significant period of change in the management of MG, underlining the importance of ongoing research and adjustment of treatment regimens to improve patient quality of life and clinical outcomes.
